2010 Live Oscar Blog Post (Cont'd)

The Oscars about to begin!

ALRIGHT! They brought back the orchestra!

This is strange though...presenting the best actor/actress nominees at the very beginning...this makes this like...a play or some weird game show...This announcer is using a shitty mic. Peaking like a mofo.

WOOOO!!!!!!! NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally brought class back to the Oscars. I love this. It's maybe a bit too classic, it's very 1920s Art Deco, classic cinema, but I love that kinda stuff...but we'll see how it functions for the rest of the show.

I love Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Alec Baldwin is especially a classy choice for the Oscars.
This bit about Meryl Streep... "Over Rated"

*Trivia* "WHAT!? She didn't like The Jerk!?" what's the quote?

George Clooney doesn't seem very amused.

Best Supporting Actor

Matt Damon - Invictus
Woody Harleson - The Messenger
Christopher Plumer - The Last Station
Stanely Tucci - The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz - Inglorious Bastards

Winner
CHRISTOPH WALTZ

This is very well deserved. He was brilliant. He took on a very hard role, played it well, and kept it consistent. Just straight up good acting.

7:51 - What the hell is this Blind Side thing? Are they going to like...pitch all the best picture movies in between awards?

7:56 - wow...there are so many gimmicks this year for the Oscars, they are really desperate to gain viewers.

Best Animated Feature

Coraline
The Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Secret of Kells
The Princess and the Frog
Up

Best Animated Feature is:
UP

Do I have to explain why this won? Didn't think so.

8:00 - ew...Miley and Amanda Seyfried...UGLY!!!!!!!!!! Can someone please get Miley some braces?

Best Original Song

Almost There - The Princess and the Frog
Down in New Orleans - The Princess and the Frog
Loin de Paname - Paris 36
Take it All - Nine
The Weary Kind - Crazy Heart

Best Original Song:
The Weary Kind - Crazy Heart

Wait...did they just do a ton of thank yous, i thought this year they weren't supposed to do thank yous...

8:05 - District 9 was SOOOOOOOoooo awesome, I need to see it again, that movie was great. No Avatar, but it was amazing!

8:10 - I'm not feeling as opinionated this year...prolly cause this year's movies overall sucked real bad. Everyone kinda knows what's going to win and what's going to loose...

8:12 - WAIT! Are Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem dating?

Best Original Screenplay

The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Bastards
The Messenger
A Serious Man
Up

Best Original Screenplay Goes to:
The Hurt Locker

Ok, well...I might as well get this out now...This year there is a huge political battle between The Hurt Locker and Avatar...There are going to be a lot of political wins for The Hurt Locker...this'll be interesting. The Hurt Locker was a really fantastic movie, but it didn't go above and beyond the call of duty, Avatar did.

8:17 - Molly Ringwald is either really tall...or Mathew Broderick is really tiny...and why does Molly look really scared.

John Hughes Tribute
I didn't know he did so many of these movies...I mean I did...but I didn't. Here's to John Hughes, a man who took adolescent and treated them for what they were and what they were dealing with, rather than treating them like under developed people who aren't worth anything. He shined a light on teenagers that had never been shown before, and seems like it will never been shown again.

That was sweet, sincere and classy.

8:23 - Why did the cast of twilight not look very enthused about the John Hughes Tribute?

8:24 - So...I was under the impression that you could only be nominated for either best picture or best animated feature...are they bending the rules cause they screwed up this year and decided to nominated 10 movie for best picture durring the crappiest year for movies ever?

8:27 - "let's bring out these pretty actresses..." no but wait...Carrey Mulligan is ugly...at least with short hair she is.

8:30 - Are they about to introduce best live action short? Or are they just going to talk about the making of the short?

THANK YOU JOHN LACETER!!!!! "It's not about your equipment young film makers, it's about the telling of the story"

Best Animated Short

The Lady and the Reaper
Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty
French Roast
Logorama
A Matter of Loaf and Death

Best Animated Short:
LOGORAMA

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any of the shorts this year :(

Best Documentary Short

China's Unnatural Disaster
The last Campaign
The Last Truck
Music by Prudence
Rabbit a La Berlin

Best Documentary Short
Music by Prudence

This is really strange...are they doing ALL the short subject categories together? Very strange...

Best Live Action Short

The Door
Instead of Abracadabra
Kavi
Miracle Fish
The New Tenants

Best Live Action Short
The New Tenants

Once again...I wish I had seen all these...But I did see "Instead of Abracadabra" and boy am I glad that didn't win. That movie was like a foreign Napoleon Dynamite who did magic tricks...it was stupid...

8:38 - Ben Stiller is redonk...He is really funny. Damn, he went all out.

Best Make-Up

Il Divo
Star Trek
The Young Victoria

Best Make-Up
Star Trek

Wait...I mean...I guess I'm ok with this win...by why wasn't District 9 nominated? The make-up on that arm and what now was baller. But I guess there was more overall make-up in Star Trek...but man...none of these movies had anything that went above what make-up can already do...Like...wasn't it Benjamin Button last year?

8:44 - A Serious Man better not win. SWEET! Finally! A Comercial, I need a pee break!!!!

8:48 - MMmmmmmmm I love Rachel McAdams

Best Adapted Screenplay

Up in the Air
Precious
In the Loop
An Education
District 9

The Winner is:
Precious

Well...I'm not familiar with the source material of any of these except for District 9...so maybe the writer of Precious did an extremely brilliant job...but I feel like An Education was a better script. PS. Why is Tyler Perry crying? Someone needs to put Tyler Perry in check.

Now that no one can give thank yous on stage, the writers are going to have the best speeches haha.

Best Supporting Actress

Penelope Cruiz
Vera Farmiga
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Anna Kendrick
Mo'Nique

Best Supporting Actress
Mo'Nique

Totally deserved this, the only one to really push themselves in a role and be extremely real.

Mo'Nique...about the performance and not the politics...yeah...it's about your performance...but don't try to tell me anything Precious wins has absolutely nothing to do with politics...cause everyone was apart of that movie for politics...HA! Sam Jackson just made the best face in response to her speech.

Best Art Direction

Avatar
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Nine
Sherlock Holmes
The Young Victoria

Best Art Direction
AVATAR

THANK GOD!!!! If this hadn't won, I'd have to shoot someone.

And the Avatar Tally begins at 1 for 1

Best Costume Design

Bright Star
Coco Before Channel
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
Nine
The Young Victoria

Best Costume Design
The Young Victoria

Figures, I was waiting for that movie to finally win something, the period piece usually wins this. "I already have two of these" damn...what a jerk...

9:19 - Why is the cast of Twilight doing the Horror Tribute...their movie isn't horror at all...

Best Sound Editing

Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Star Trek
Up

Best Sound Editing
The Hurt Locker

I think i'm ok with this....but definitely not with the next one.

Best Sound Mixing

Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Star Trek
Transformers

Best Sound Mixing
The Hurt Locker

Dude...Avatar had to make up SOOOooooo many different sounds for so many different things and make it work and make you believe it...how did it not win

Avatar count 1 for 3... :(

Best Cinematography

Avatar
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
The White Ribbon

Best Cinematography
AVATAR

FUCK YEAH!!!!!! The art of cinematography had to be changed for this movie, he is an innovator and deserves this award. None of the other movies were anything more than was cinematography is, Avatar invented a new form of cinematography.

Avatar 2 for 5

In Memoriam

Always beautiful, unfortunately this years will be extremely long and tragic. The Film industry will miss all of you.

Wow...I didn't know Roy Disney Died...

huh...wait...that was actually extremely short...it's usually much much longer...didn't a boat load of people die this year?

9:45 - Sam Worthington needs his big ass hipster glasses to see the prompter.

What the hell is with this crazy interpritive dance shit? It's like America's Best Dance Crew does the Oscars...Shouldn't we be watching musicians playing music...not dancers dancing to music...i thought the Oscar was for Best Score not best dance adaptation...

Best Original Score

Sherlock Holmes
The Hurt Locker
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Up
Avatar

Best Score:
UP

Ugh...really? that don't make no sense...it just doesn't...simple, used sounds...nothing special...This is like the Oscars of mediocrity...

Best Visual Effects

Ok if Avatar doesn't win...the world is retarded and i've lost all hope.

Avatar
District 9
Star Trek

Best Visual Effects
Avatar

Alright, the world still makes sense. This was a no brainer.

Best Documentary Feature

Berma VJ
The Cove
Food, Inc.
The Most Dangerous Man in America
Which Way Home

Best Documentary Feature
The Cove

...Didn't see any of these...

10:05 - Ugh, Tyler Perry can crawl into a hole and die...why is he presenting Editing? That's stupid...he makes trash, probably doesn't know anything about editing...

Best Editing

Avatar
District 9
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Precious

Best Editing
The Hurt Locker

I'm actually ok with this one, the editing was pretty slick. Compared to the other ones, they didn't do anything new or special.

10:14 - What is the deal with this lampshade backdrop...it's kind of awkward...Quentin is a funny(weird) presenter

Best Foreign Language Film

Ajami
The Milk of Sorrow
A Prophet
The Secret in their Eyes
The White Ribbon

Best Foreign Language Film
The Secret in their Eyes

Why didn't I know about any of these movies???

10:19 - man...they are really plowing through the Oscars this year.

10:26 - I can't remember...was the presentation of the actor nominees last year huge pats on the back of nominees? SELF INDULGENCE! CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!

Best Actor

Jeff Bridges
George Clooney
Colin Firth
Morgan Freeman
Jeremy Renner

Best Actor
Jeff Bridges

What have we learned here...from the last two oscars...play a washed up performer of sorts, have some deep rooted personal issue, and decide to turn your life around and make a come back and win an oscar...

Best Actress

Sandra Bullock
Helen Mirren
Carey Mulligan
Gabourey Sidibe
Meryl Streep

Best Actress
Sandra Bullock

Ok...so I knew this was coming...but I didn't believe it...I still don't believe it...it makes me wanna see it...but Adam says this doesn't mean I need to see this movie...this is crazy.

Best Director

James Cameron
Kathryn Bigelow
Quentin Tarentino
Lee Daniels
Jason Reitman

Best Director
Kathryn Bigelow

Saw it coming...once again...POLITICAL OSCARS! But I have no problem with her getting it, so long as Avatar gets best picture...we'll find out shortly...

BEST PICTURE

THE HURT LOCKER

Fuck that! ok, time for a quick rant. Hurt Locker, really good movie, one of the best this year. The ending did suck tho. HOWEVER! It was just a good movie. It wasn't an amazing movie, it wasn't a mind blowing movie, it was just a good movie. It did exactly what a good movie should do. It didn't do anything special, which Avatar actually did. Yes...the movie had it's flaws, but from a producers stand point, and for pioneering something new...it was flawless and executed brilliantly to sound of over $2billion. Avatar created something new and unique and brought excitement back to cinema, the Hurt Locker made me feel nothing more than the feeling of watching a good movie...nothing more...nothing less...

The 2010 Oscars were the weirdest things I have ever seen. This shall be known as:
The Oscars of Mediocrity.

Adam's OSCAR PICKS!

Oscar Picks!

OHHHH SNAP! It's been awhile since we've posted anything. Will we pick it back up? I hope so. But that's neither here nor there.

After a lackluster 2009 year at the movies, it's time for THE ACADEMY AWARDS! I'm going to make my picks. Can you out-pick me? We will certainly see.

2010 Live Oscar Blog Post

As a personal request, I'm going to attempt to do another live blog post documenting the 82nd Annual Academy Awards...this should be interesting...

The blog post will officially begin at 7:30 central time.

The Red Carpet (Part 1 6PM)
So...I don't know how everyone felt...but the first section of the Red Carpet coverage was really lame...the guy they have covering the floor is trying too hard, and all the other people keep talking about what great coverage they have...trying to hide the fact that they have GIANT TENTS covering the action and they're just disappointed they can't see anything.

Oh Barbara
6:11 - Monique doesn't shave her legs, tried once...didn't like it...how interesting. What an intensely personal interview. Barbara is known for going for the hard hitting questions...but now she's prolly like, "Fuck it, this is my last Oscar broadcast, I'll do what ever I want."

6:13 - I really hope I can make it through this blog post...let alone the Oscars...I'm ridiculously exhausted.

**Side Note - Follow @JayArr47 on twitter and tell him how my blog is better than him being obnoxious on twitter, and that I'll destroy him if he continues.**

6:15 - Barbara Walters, ala @AmandaSophiaE "I AM SICK OF IT!" Barbara does have amazing poise for being as old as she is and for someone who's been in the business as long as she has been. It's pretty impressive.

6:21 - Sneak peak on Sandra Bullocks interview, she admits that she was just as surprised as the rest of the world when she got nominated for an Oscar, haha. Cheers to knowing your place int he world. Speaking of Sandra Bullock and seeming kinda cool, check out her Razzie acceptance speech -

6:25 - HAHA! Barbara interview the Ninja Turtles, AMAZING!!!!!

6:39 - I never realized Harrison Ford had his left ear pierced.

6:45 - 2010, the year for terrible movies and stereotypical Oscar winning type movies, ie, The Blind Side, or Crazy Heart...but both Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock seem to be the favorites...i don't get it...I really don't wanna see either of those movies...

6:53 - "CUT TAPE! CUT TAPE! CUT TAPE!" Barbara came back real quick with a one word answer. Don't try to stump the master stumper, it's not gonna happen Sandra.

6:58 - Alright...Imma brb...I need to grab some energy drinks so I can stay awake for the Oscars...

Red Carpet (Part 2)
7:12 - haha, what the hell was up with Morgan Freeman? He was like...wearing Jack Nicholson Shades...acting way too laid back and almost spoke in Jive, chewing gum...that was weird...

7:15 - Oh SNAP! Check out the spray tan on Sarah Jessica Parker...that is so nasty...

7:16 - Cameron Diaz looks like a giant.

7:17 - Wake me up when the oscars start...I'm exhausted...
